Manali is a beautiful hill station in Himachal Pradesh, India. The landscape here is breath taking. One sees well-defined snow capped peaks, the Beas River with its clear water, deodar and pine trees, tiny fields and fruit orchards. It is an excellent place for a holiday, a favorite resort for trekkers and adventure sport lovers. Manali is situated at an altitude of around 2,300 Ft from sea-level. The small town was the beginning of an ancient trade route to Ladakh. It is on the way to Leh on NH-1. Manali was also the home and abode of the Saptarishi or seven sages, so it is a place of great significance to the Indian Culture. Manali is well connected to cities like Delhi and Chandigarh by road. The nearest Airport is Bhunter which is 50 km from Manali. The close railway stations are Chandigarh (310 km) and Ambala (355 km). By road the distance from Delhi is 570 km and from Shimla it is 280 km. The State Tourism Department HPTDC runs luxury and Volvo coaches to Manali from Delhi and Shimla. Manali, with its Mountaineering Institute, is a popular base for trekking and mountaineering in summer and skiing in winter. Other Adventure activities here include River Rafting, Skiing, Paragliding, Trekking, Hiking, Mountaineering and River crossing. Yak skiing is a sport unique to this area. Manali also featured in Time magazine's "Best of Asia" for its "Extreme Yak Sports". Rohtang Pass is the highest point on the Manali-Keylong road and provides a wide panoramic view of mountains rising far above clouds, which is truly breath taking. Close by is a small lake called Dassaur Lake . Beas Kund. In winter, the road of Rothang Pass is closed. Rani Nala is the glacier point where snow is available throughout the year. It is around 46 Km from Manali. Vasishta is a small village across the Beas River with natural sulphur springs. Rishi Vasishta was one of the Saptharishis, the seven celestial teachers. It is said that Saint Vasishtha narrated an ancient scripture to Rama. A unique and an extremely profound discourse, that provides innumerable insights and secrets to the inner world of consciousness. This extremely huge scripture covers all the topics that relate to the spiritual study of a seeker. Solang valley, popularly known as Snow Point, is 13 km from Manali and famous for its 300-meter ski lift. It is a picturesque spot and offers splendid views of glaciers and the snow-capped mountains. Manikaran is 85 km from Manali and 45 km from Kullu. Here icy cold waters of the Parvati river co-exist with hot-water springs side-by-side. The springs are known for their healing properties.
